抄録

In this paper, we try to construct an image retrieval system so that Kansei (a kind of the sence) information is adopted as a query of the system and pictures fitting Kansei are retrieved from image database. First, we select Kansei words from an adjective dictionary based on Factor Analysis. Next, we give relations between Kansei words and physical design elements of the pictures by Quantification Method I and fuzzy logic theory. Finally, we compare the pictures retrieved by our system with those selected by human in evaluation experiments and show the validity of our system.

In developing intelligent scheduling systems, it is important to develop an effective method for acquisition of decision rules. This paper extends the authors' previous work on single machine scheduling problems to flow shop scheduling problems and describes a method for rule acquisition by generating sample schedules and analyzing their properties. For rule acquisition, C4.5 learning algorithm is used and training cases are generated by interchanging two jobs in a sample schedule. Job attributes and location properties are used as the basic information for rule acquisition. Finally, we investigate the effectiveness of the proposed method and demonstrate the applicability of the obtained rules by computational experiments

In this study a new automatic guidance method using fuzzy control for vehicles such as cars and mobile robots is proposed. This proposed method is based on a general fuzzy steering model (GFSM) and a simple position and orientation measurement method by image processing for the vehicles. This GFSM can be applied to vehicles of various sizes, speeds, etc., and courses of different widths. It can also be applied to courses of any shape.
In this paper, the input variables of the fuzzy control rules are defined as relative quantity and the GFSM is identified. An approach of applying the GFSM to corner courses with general angles by modifying the steering angle according to the angle of the corner is developed. A way of applying the GFSM to any curved courses by regarding a curved course as a unreal corner course is considered. The effectiveness is confirmed by simulation.

For the purpose of reducing noise caused by current collector that are located on super high-speed railways, a new concept of low-noise current collectors has been developed. This new low-noise current collector's features are a delta-shaped collector head directly supported by a composite insulator. It also has a conductor for conducting power received from the current collector to an electric circuit. Both the conductor and insulator are supported by the two-step hydraulic mechanisms. The vertical height of those apparatus are controlled by using an active control system so as to maintain the predetermined contact force of the contact strip against the trolley-wire. As a result on bench tests, where a lift of 127 [N] was applied, the contact force decreased to 95% by detecting the force cylinder and varying the desired rising force. It was also confirmed that the limit tracking performance against roughness of the trolley-wire was 28 [mmp-p] at 2 [Hz] where the contact break ratio at 300 [km/h] was 20% by a pantograph test machine using an active control system.

In urban road network in Japan, a control area is divided into several sub-areas for the purpose of determining the signal timings. Each sub-area consists of a series of intersections with one critical intersection where traffic congestion sometimes takes place. Each sub-area is associated with a unique cycle length and the split of each intersection is calculated based on the cycle length. The conventional method is deficient in that the cycle length is characterized only by the critical intersection and other intersections in the sub-area are ignored. The paper proposes a new method of determining the optimal cycle length which minimizes the total delay time in the sub-area. In order to evaluate the validity of this approach, the experiments were carried out using a traffic flow simulator. These experiments showed that the method proposed in this paper decreases the queue length significantly, compared with the conventional method.
